How Do You Answer the Question? by Jim Massey

How Do You Answer the Question?

One of the most familiar phrases this time of year is "How Long?" We ask the sales clerk, "How long before that present will be wrapped?", or "How long before you get the next shipment in so I can buy this present for my child?" And you can even hear children saying, "How long before we can open the presents?", or "How long before we can go to a movie and have our friends come and visit?" No matter where we go, the question seems to follow us everywhere, "How long?"

This is not a seasonal question that has been developed for this time of year. Other questions have been asked that are even more profound: "How long must we suffer?", "How long must we wait for the Lord?"

In Hebrews the apostle Paul offers an answer: "For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, my soul has no pleasure in him." It is not a question of "how long?", but of our desire to be faithful to the Lord no matter when He chooses as His coming. Paul continues: "But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved." (Hebrews 10:37-39)

Holy Father, come into our hearts this day and find the true desire that is hidden there. Let us be willing to go to the world continually and tell the Good News of the One who is coming in the form of a tiny child. Let the strength of this faith grow in our lives this day. In the blessed name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

This has been Rev. Jim Massey. Next week is Christmas and we pray that your family has a wonderful celebration of the birth of God’s Son. If your family is apart, know that God links them together in a special way and if you recognize that, your family will truly be blessed this year.

Join me next week when we share the blessing of the hand of God.
